Tour of Montepulciano and Pienza
This tour explores the southern part of Tuscany and focuses on two ancient towns that are surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in the world. Montepulciano and Pienza are fascinating, unspoiled, and timeless. Walking down the narrow cobblestone streets of Montepulciano is a moving experience. The piazzas and the palazzi are elegant and authentic, and it’s impossible to ignore the gorgeous countryside just beyond the city walls.
Montepulciano is known for being the home to a great, traditional wine, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG, which is aged in historic cellars located beneath the streets of the town. During your visit you will enjoy visiting Piazza Grande, the center of town where the Duomo cathedral and the Palazzo Comunale are located.
Then it’s off to Pienza, where we will enjoy eating some of the well-known “pecorino” cheese, which is produced locally. The town where Pope Pius II was born is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its beautiful cathedral with its imposing façade in travertine presides over Piazza Pio II, and just beyond the walls of the town is the stunning Valdorcia valley. This itinerary is perfect for those who want to truly experience the beauty of Tuscany.
