Arezzo and Cortona
This tour is designed so that you can discover two of the most beautiful and ancient cities in Tuscany. The tour leaves in the morning from your lodgings aboard one of our NCC licensed vehicles that let us enter into the historic city center so that you can maximize your time there.
First stop: Arezzo. Like every Tuscan city, Arezzo has a rich cultural heritage, fantastic landscapes, and top-notch architectural wonders. Its Piazza Grande reveals traces of Roman, Renaissance, and Medieval culture, making it a rich, open air museum. Not to be missed is a visit to the fresco cycle “The Legend of the True Cross” by Piero della Francesca, which is located in the Basilica of San Francesco.
In the afternoon a short drive will bring you to Cortona, a hill town on the eastern border of the Valdichiana valley. Not to be missed here is the Museum for Etruscan artifacts, which is of national importance, and the beautiful Duomo cathedral with its museum. The town earned fame thanks to the novel “Under the Tuscan Sun” by American writer, Frances Mayes, which inspired the successful film of the same name. The afternoon concludes with a lovely walk through the medieval streets of Cortona and a chance for a little shopping.
